Shattered

by Karyn Powers

Where flees the shattered soul when ripped from grace

Of life and love and wholeness in this world

Reduced in form reordered from its place

Until its very essence is unfurled

What happens to un-tethered spiritual threads

So rendered and unraveled in their flights

That none may be rejoined from whence they fled

And spiral ever outward into night

And who has left and who is left behind

Those breathing just as broken as those not

And who’s been caught and who escaped in time

A life in pain is just to live for naught

The dead leave once and are forever gone

The grieving live that leaving on and on.
