The Message

by Agnes Clarke

With steadfast resistance it stands stiffly cold

Discussion is over see the letters so bold

Weathered patina and years of neglect

Strange creeping weeds show the door no respect

Through the slit shines a light where the letter box reigned

Damp smelling with slime and etched with such pain

Regret in its message clearly ignored without love

And washed by the rain’s rolling tears from above
