To My Son
by Sue Ann Connaughton
Fragile baby
I lingered
in the shadows
and stole kisses
like Magdalene
shy, sly.
Headstrong child
we made angels
in the snow
played games
with jagged words
and toys of chance.
Accomplished man
soaring toward the sky
I come washed in silver
seeking sugar kisses
white wings
and simple toys.
