WHY
by Agnes Clarke
I’m lonesome for the love that’s gone
When all alone I cry
Memories they haunt my soul
And thoughts return to “Why”
Bare walls surround like prison bars
Hurt has chilled my heart once free
Now icy fingers grasp and hold
A relic that once was me
Such passion burned within my veins
While warm kisses seared my lips
Innocence fled like tidal waves on sand
As magic caressed my finger tips
That heaven I thought was mine to own
Was never to be for me
He took possession and held back the truth
Only the world outside could see
With rose coloured glasses I fell for his charm
Tomorrow was never a thought
Now frozen in time my heart won’t forget
“Why” happiness with heartache is fraught
