the tree begins its own healing process

starting with the sound of something

melting and forming

at the same pace


then its branches let through

a peripheral lightning from the forest

behind who seems insignificant

but is actually just distant


Leaves crystalize into a radiating warmth

that only irrational winter people

are madly in love with


reasonably irrational

        like sunshine slipping inside the snow

individually universal

        like depression dissolving into the clouds

bravely vulnerable

        like the day the tree froze

                 and we still hope
